When Marie-Antoinette is going through her shoes while preparing for a big party you see a pair of blue Converse All Star 1923 Chuck Taylor basketball shoes for about one and a half seconds. While these shoes were definitely not in existence at the time of Marie-Antoinette, their inclusion in the film was intentional, to portray Marie-Antoinette as a typical teenage girl despite the time she lived in. Who or what would you consider are the main influences of your work? What inspires you?

kmyechan answered:

That’s a tough one, because I have had many different influences over the years and keep finding new inspirations all the time!

Quick and non-exhaustive list:

  • Japanese manga and French/Belgian comics: this is what got me into drawing in the first place, and heavily influences the way I draw and plan images to this day
  • Dutch masters, especially their sense of light and colours
  • Pre-Raphaelite painters, both for their sense of composition and the constant reference to nature
  • the Symbolist Movement
  • 19th century/early 20th century illustrators, especially Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac

My inspirations page is usually full of beautiful artwork that inspires me and a good guide to art I like in general:

Thanks for your question! :)

Counting down Scotland to six weeks now. Hope my photographs are anything close to this beautiful. Finally shipped my friend in Montana back her pro camera and after much deliberation over the Iceland outtakes, I have decided to jump into the deep end and buy my own pro pack for travel photography. Thinking a Mark III. I can’t just up and skip off to Scotland without one, now can I? No. The home in the first image is basically my dream home. I might not come back to the States. I might leave my life for that of a Scottish rancher instead.
